The Importance of Marketing

Ponder this a moment… How would one get to know you if they did not first know your name?  In a business sense, this topic correlates with marketing.  Marketing is a crucial aspect to any practice.  It is our responsibility to put our name out in the community.  If we do not tell them our name, they will not know. Marketing is a huge reason for the success of Sullivan Dentistry.  This may seem like an added cost to some.  However, the return is a well worth expense.  Our marketing director, Sara Boyd makes every effort necessary to effectively spread Sullivan Dentistry’s name throughout the community, using her budget wisely. From gifts to commercials, Sullivan Dentistry is well known in [...]

Tips for Continual Growth

As stated by Benjamin Franklin, “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” How do you expect successful growth without continuing to better yourself? One can never have enough education, thus continued learning is always needed. Education is an important asset to Sullivan Dentistry. We practice continued education frequently, in multiple ways. Many of our assistants have been trained in expanded functions. This allows them to work one on one with the patients, in turn allowing the doctors to be readily available for other procedures. Most of our hygienists are certified in nitrous oxide administration and anesthesia. Multiple trainings in OSHA, HIPAA, and medical emergencies are conducted annually. There is a sense of [...]

Vacation

“Take vacations. Go as many places as you can. You can always make money. You can’t always make memories.” -Unknown… As much as we all enjoy our jobs and coworkers, there is an importance in having time off to refresh. We come back with a clear mind and ready to work. Vacation time is necessary for employee morale. Every time another year rolls around, employees are excitedly planning how to use their paid time off. Here at Sullivan Dentistry, our staff enjoys a generous vacation policy. Depending on how many years employed, paid time off will increase over time. Each employee gives 100% and they deserve the same in return. Take this time to treat yourself. How can you take [...]

Where will you find success?

How does one define success? Some say that success is in the eye of the beholder. The obvious equivalent for most people is measured in dollars. For others, family time or travel might measure success. Each of these are important; however, it is the balance between them that is the true success. We need to take into consideration the importance of flexibility. According to Merriam-Webster, one of the definitions of flexibility is the quality of bending easily without breaking. This definition speaks for itself and can be easily applied to multiple instances. In life, to achieve this juggling act, we must be willing to bend. It is often insinuated that you cannot have one type of success without sacrificing another. [...]

How to Communicate

Are You Listening? An important aspect to a practice is an open line of communication.  There is a greater opportunity of obtaining success when there is a clear understanding between patients and staff.  As stated by Stephen Covey, “The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply.”  Are we truly listening… really listening? An open-door policy is an important aspect of communication.  We desire that the staff feel comfortable enough to come to us with any worries they might have.  Whether that means bringing an issue to a doctor or team leader, everyone should feel comfortable expressing concerns.  Keeping our problems inward tends to lead to unnecessary stress and can make for an uncomfortable [...]

One Million

What is the million-dollar question? How is it possible for a new dentist to have one million dollars in production in only one year? In the past, I have had numerous associate’s produce over one million in a year, early on in their practice. By this point, I know your wheels are spinning with questions. In this publication, we are going to briefly discuss how this might be attainable for you. Most of these topics have been touched on in our previous newsletters. Grouped together, a successful practice/career is born. As the popular phrase states, “There is no ‘I’ in team”. There is an importance in showing up and working. It does take a lot of work to reach $1,000,000 [...]

What is Vision?

As stated by Helen Keller, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”  In business and in life, without a destination, the journey can never begin.  Your goals need to be attainable, but at the same time do not limit yourself.  Do not put a cap on your dreams. At Sullivan Dentistry, we have a vision for growth.  We are constantly searching for additional dentists to add to the practice.  With this addition to our team, we can quickly elevate the practice to the next level. There is an importance to having this sense of urgency.  Without it, there is a tendency to slack off in the pursuit.  A larger office, as well as satellite [...]

Tricks for Achieving Balance

Achieving the balance between work and life is the goal of many. This does not necessarily mean an equal number of hours, but being able to experience the joys of living. Life is far too hectic and short to miss out on the simple pleasures. Some people get so engrossed with success or the hustle and bustle of work, that they forget to slow down. Family is extremely important to us at Sullivan Dentistry. We feel that to succeed in life and happiness you must first make time for your family. The staff is given the option of flexible schedules to accomplish this. The employees can choose between getting off earlier or days off. These options are both managed by [...]

Making a Difference

As stated by Mandy Hale, “To make a difference in someone’s life you don’t have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful, or perfect.  You just have to care.”  At Sullivan Dentistry, we strive to use our skills to make a difference in not only in our patient’s oral health, but also in their overall health and confidence.  Sometimes all one desires is a beautiful smile to boost self-esteem.  Per a recent AACD survey, 65% of people expressed how their smile impacts their confidence.  Once performing dental work, we are not only giving back the patient’s smile, but their self-confidence. (Allure Dental Center). Overall health is a concern of ours, as well.  Whenever our patients come into the office before any services [...]

Why Show Up?

Success is a topic that is highly discussed in business and in life.  The purpose of these publications is to give insight to young and upcoming dentists that may be interested in either joining, partnering, or owning a practice.  There is an abundance for one to learn before venturing out.  The two steps discussed in this article are 1) showing up and 2) staying. Our first step is to show up.  When I say “show up”, this does not mean to physically show up.  (However, that is also very important!) To show up means to put your all into the job, to give the very best of yourself.  When one hundred percent effort is given, your outcome will prove to [...]
